False – It comes from the Algonquin word ‘adawe’, which means ‘to trade’.
- 2. Ottawa is in French-speaking Quebec.
False – It’s in English-speaking Ontario, but it is on the border with Quebec.
- 4. Ottawa is one of the oldest cities in the country, in terms of the age of its population.
False – It’s one of the youngest cities in Canada. Half of the population is under 35.
- 5. Ottawa is a big city, but it’s not a very touristic city.
False – There is a lot to do, and the city attracts more than 7.3 million visitors each year.
- 7. The Rideau Canal has had many renovations and replacements because the cold weather damages its mechanical structures.
False – Many of the mechanical structures are from the original 19th-century construction.
